Backing Requirements

What size should my backing be?

Here's an easy way to remember: Four-for-four! :) I require the backing to be 4" extra ON ALL SIDES. For example, if you have a quilt top that is 60" x 80", your backing should measure at least 68" x 88". It can be bigger, not smaller. Extra fees may apply if I need to put extra time into getting your quilt ready to load. If you have questions, please ask.

Tidy it up!

Please press your top and backing for me so that it's nice and tidy and ready for me to load. Please also clip stray threads or raveling fabrics as best as you can. You might not be able to get them all, but to prevent dark threads from shadowing through your quilt top, please don't skip this important step!

I want this to be fun for you and not overwhelming! If you need any help in making your choice I would love to help you with that. You also have the option of having me make the quilting decisions for you. Sometimes it might just depend on the purpose for your quilt.

Quilting Design

Thread Choice

My design preference is to match the thread to the fabrics in your quilt that are lightest in value, using neutrals a lot.

Batting Options

Most of the batting I stock is on a 93" roll. I will use only what is needed for your quilt (smallest side + a 5" margin) and charge per inch. For example, if you have a 60" x 80" quilt, I would cut 65" inches of the batting of your choice. • 65" of 100% cotton @ $0.40/in = $26.00 • 65" of 80/20 cotton/poly blend @ $0.35/in = $22.75 • 65" of 100% poly @ $0.26/in = $16.90

Instagram or Social Media Sharing

I'd love to promote your beautiful work! Fill this out only if you are permitting me to share pictures of your quilt on social media. Please include the pattern name, pattern designer and/or any special fabrics your quilt features. If you need to keep the project secret, please indicate that as well!

Return Shipping

I use USPS Priority shipping to return quilts (if not arranging pick up locally). It comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number. Please indicate in the message section if you would like me to purchase additional insurance on your behalf (added to the invoice when work is complete). I will let you know the extra cost before invoicing. As a guideline, select the estimated amount of invoice plus your materials cost in the quilt. I use the smallest box possible to save on shipping costs but also insuring that your quilt comes back to you in the best possible condition.

Backing Requirements

In order to give you the best results possible, please ensure your backing fabric is a total of 8" wider and 8" longer than your quilt top. This gives me at least 4" of margin on each side of the quilt top. Your backing can be larger but not smaller.

I acknowledge my backing fabric meets the minimum size requirement for my quilt top(s).

Binding Service

I attach your ready to go binding and you finish. I attach your binding to the front of your quilt and hand stitch to the back.
